MEET LINDSAY LOONEY
Growing up, Lindsay has always had her sights set on becoming an Olympian. When she was in fifth grade, a teacher wrote on her report card that she believed she was swimming too much, which was impacting her school performance. That said, Lindsay was swimming for 1 hour, three times a week. Anyone who knows swimming, or any sport, knows this commitment was quite small at her age. That night, she went home and wrote, “Become an Olympian,” on her bathroom mirror. That pink lipstick is still on her childhood home bathroom mirror and will stay there until that goal is met.
The years of swimming never presented itself without challenges. From managing hip pain starting at eleven years old, Lindsay has been determined to work through the struggles that chronic pain brings while loving her sport. From multiple MRIs, cortisone shots, and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections, reaching goals became apparent in that they are never a linear route. After receiving PRP injections for the first time in May 2024 and having to take time off before World Trials in June, Lindsay was on the fence about how the competition would turn out. The meet came along and went better than Lindsay could’ve imagined. She qualified for her first senior international competition from Lane 1 after chasing the entire field on the last 50. This sparked realization in Lindsay where she discovered what she was truly capable of accomplishing.
Not only does Lindsay want to become an Olympian in sport, but also an Olympian in life. Lindsay has always had a passion for not only her sport but also for making a difference in other people’s lives.
From a young age, she has always had a way with children. Whether it be her Mom’s maternal instincts that passed on to her or a different impact, she found love in the developmental side of children. Growing up in a big family with four uncles, she has the opportunity to spend special time with her young cousins and be a key player in their critical developmental years. This is the primary reason she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Family and Human Development.
